Hello World (Again): 20 Years of Flying Through Change
Pilots fly machines, they aren’t the machine.”
— Manisha Singhal
This quote has been on my mind throughout 2025. It’s a reminder that in an industry increasingly driven by automation and efficiency, we’re still human with all the strengths and limitations that come with it.

Why I’m Here (Again)
I created this blog back in 2005 yes, that’s why I have the OG username “Puneet” without any numbers or underscores. Twenty years later, I’m reviving this space to cut through the noise and create a platform to reflect on my thoughts and values.
So let’s start with what I know best: aviation.
Top 5 Changes in Indian Aviation
1. Auto Changeover: The Unsung Hero
Most major metro airfields now have laid-down procedures for automatic frequency changeover from tower to radar controller this “insignificant” change has brought massive efficiency gains to Indian air traffic procedures. It’s the kind of quiet improvement that made system more efficient and robust
2. CTOT/TSAT: The Algorithm
Then: 40-50 minute ground delays.
Now: 15-20 minutes from startup to airborne, thanks to Calculated Take-Off Time (CTOT) and Target Startup Approval Time (TSAT).
Departures are now sequenced based on calculated takeoff times, so you get a target startup time that actually makes sense. Revolutionary? absolutely.
3. eGCA Logbook: End of the Paper logbook
From filing paper pilot logbooks to logging everything on the DGCA eGCA portal—India has finally embraced digital logbooks. This makes life easier for everyone: pilots, operators, and regulators.
Need to renew your license? The system already knows your hours. No more digging through faded entries, Automation for the win.
4. 24/7 Operations:
Two decades ago, night flights were mostly for international ops.
Today, airlines connect even Tier-3 cities after dark.
🟢 The good: Better connectivity, more opportunities.
🔴 The bad: High demands on pilot fitness and health. Increased sleep restriction from shift work and night flying brings inflammation, cardiovascular stress, and all the joys of circadian disruption.
🏋 The fix: Focus on recovery sleep, nutrition, and cardiovascular fitness.
Because coffee and willpower only get you so far.
5. Consolidation: Fewer Airlines, More Stability
India has watched many airlines shut down over the years. The consolidation has resulted in two major carriers dominating the market and that’s brought job security and certainty for the workforce , With massive aircraft orders on the books, there are real growth opportunities for pilots entering the workforce in India. For once, the future looks less turbulent.
What’s Next?
Twenty years in, the skies are busier, smarter, and more connected. But they’re also more demanding. As I revive this blog, I’ll be reflecting on these changes and what they mean for the people who keep the aircraft moving.
Welcome back. Let’s see where this goes
